After leaving school in the summer of ’69, Bob served his apprenticeship as a Toolmaker with a local engineering company in Nelson, Lancashire. He later was to join the Merchant Navy as an Engineering Officer before returning to full time education where he gained a Bsc.(Hons.) Degree in Engineering Design & Manufacture.
This led him to become Design Engineer, then Production Manager of a local company with the added responsibility of becoming Computer System Administrator, required to successfully implement the smooth transition between the old and new computer operating systems, and co-ordinate the company’s Y2K procedures.
Bob was then offered the position of Works Manager with a Blackburn Company and subsequently bought all the plant, stock and goodwill of the company, and started up a brand new company, which he successfully ran for 10 years, employing 12-15 workers manufacturing & powder coating office furniture, educational furniture, auditorium & stadium seating, which included the new seating in the directors box of his beloved, Burnley Football Club.
Bob and his wife Sue, who celebrated their Silver Wedding in the summer of 2011, decided to leave the 24/7 stress of engineering in the North of England, to run a very successful Coffee Shop & Guest House in Gorran Haven, Cornwall, which incorporated their own Gallery. Here they both exhibited their own distinctive and very different styles of artwork, with Bob leaning more towards the bold, block colours, and black outlines, of his innocent, naïve images drawn from their new surroundings.
Bob and Sue have now returned to live in the North of England to be close to their Grandchildren and now operate there own Website :- www.artfromsueandbob.com
